The Optiven Foundation under the health and dignity pillar has transformed the lives of thousands of Kenyans through “Mobility that Brings Smiles”. Since its inception in 2019, the initiative has donated over 1,000 wheelchairs across the country driving independence among many.
The impact of a donated wheelchair goes far beyond improved physical mobility. Ann Nyaga, The Optiven Foundation coordinator explains the ability to move independently translates into a significant boost in confidence and self esteem. The beneficiaries who were once stuck in their homes and reliant on others for movement are now able to participate in daily activities and even earn a living.
Trephon Namata from Migori learnt about Optiven after his father had a stroke on the 17th May 2025. The biggest challenge was mobility but thanks to the “Mobility that Drives Smiles” he received a brand new wheelchair to improve his movement and drive his independence. The Optiven Foundation does not stop at providing wheelchairs, the program also raises awareness to reduce stigma around and advocacy for inclusive infrastructure in public places.
As the need for mobility aids continues to grow, The Optiven Foundation calls on Kenyans and global partners to join the movement.
