Meet Mama Monica Mueni, strong , courageous, mother of three differently abled children from birth. Her home? Ruiru, Wataalamu area, where she once ran her small business but had to abandon the venture due to illness. In 2023, her world looked different but the Optiven Foundation stepped in offering not just support, but a second chance through the “Mobility That Brings Smiles initiative” which provides beneficiaries with brand new wheelchairs.
The Optiven Foundation also supports John, Mueni’s only son in his education journey under the SESP initiative giving hope to the young man who does manual work at Ruiru market to help his family during his free time or after school. Optiven Foundation led by it’s Chairman Dr. George Wachiuri made a return visit to the family where the transformation is nothing short of inspiring. The family received support from the Optiven Foundation on living essential with the promise of a scholarship for John upto and including university level under the TVET support of the Optiven Foundation.
Dr. Wachiuri while speaking in Ruiru noted that entrepreneurs should not just focus on building businesses, but also give back to the community. Quoting Mother Teresa’s words “We can do no great things, only small things with great love”, Dr. Wachiuri further thanked the connection contact Rachel Mbuthia, who shared Mueni’s story in 2023 with the Optiven Foundation team. Mbuthia, is a dedicated community worker with over 15 years of experience serving the less fortunate and vulnerable members of the society and is domiciled at Dorothy Children’s Home, located at Marurui, Kiambu County
Ann Nyaga, Coordinator of the Optiven Foundation adds, “Mueni’s journey reminds us that success isn’t measured only in profits, but in the lives we uplift. During our visit, we noticed the wheelchair she received two years ago had become too small for her and she was having discomfort. As we continue to reach more families and individuals in need, we welcome well-wishers to join us by donating wheelchairs and restoring the gift of mobility and dignity to many more lives under the “#MobilitythatBringsASmile initiative”.
