In Murang’a County at Mitahato Secondary School, two bright and determined twins from a disadvantaged background faced financial challenges to access quality education. Raised by their grandmother, Jane Njeri, they were able to navigate high school battling not only academic demands but also a constant struggle to access basic amenities.
Despite all their challenges, they never gave up, and their excellence in academics caught the attention of the Optiven Foundation. Through their education pillar under the TVET and University Scholarship Program, the Optiven Foundation team paid a visit to Brian Mungai and Boniface Kimani. They conducted an assessment before onboarding them into the scholarship program would secure their transition from high school to university.
This initiative was made possible through the partnership with Upside Trust ensuring that the lack of resources does not act as a barrier to quality education. The twins are now settling in at Meru University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting.
“Our grandmother motivated us to work harder so that we do not have to depend on her for everything,” one of them said. “This is why we work hard so that one day we can also support her.” Under the TVET and University Scholarship Program, the Optiven Foundation remains committed to nurturing potential and empowering the youth.
