Fast forward to 26th July 2023 and the journey finally reached its climax. George Wachiuri, together with the Director for Strategy and Operations Mary Wacuka and the Optiven Foundation coordinator were present during the special event as they officially handed over the keys to a fully furnished home.

George Wachiuri in his capacity as the trustee of the Foundation, took time to express the importance of hope in the midst of difficulty and thanked all those who made this possible. “To the Optiven Foundation, our partners and the volunteers who worked on this project, your generosity made a real difference in Leshao’s life and to Mama Leshao, your resilience and patience made you a home owner

Mama Leshao is a single mother of three from Mai Mahiu, rift valley who has been living in abject poverty. She faced many challenges including homelessness, health conditions and food insecurity which forced her to sell groceries to sustain her family.

She is a humble lady who expressed her gratitude to the Optiven Foundation and everyone who made this a reality. “I am extremely grateful for this house and I cannot wait for a new journey with my children in this safe and secure home, she said.”

The house sitting at the heart of Garden of Joy by Optiven was handed over fully furnished including a living room, a dining area, a kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a garden space to encourage urban farming. The project is located along Kagundo rd, Machakos county in a secure neighborhood with access to hospitals, schools and other social amenities.
