Optiven Real Estate joined the rest of the world in celebrating the 2022 observation of the World Environment Day. The global observation was held on 5th June 2022 and is considered at least by the United Nations Environment Program as the largest environment celebration in the world. Sweden, a country that has made great strides in matters environment was the host country for this year’s celebration under the theme Only One Earth, with the focus being with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.

 

And for Optiven, the matters of the environment remain a focal point in it’s operations. While the real estate arm under the group has been the forefront in terms of publicity, it’s environment agenda has been pushed through the Optiven Foundation’s environment pillar. Towards the observation of the 2022 World Environment Day, Chairman and Trustee of the Optiven Group Foundation, Mr. George Wachiuri presented insights towards the green agenda in Nairobi.

The event was a pre-World Environment Day summit targeting stakeholders in sustainability at the Environmental Sustainability Summit in line with this year’s World Environment Day under the theme, Only One Earth! Organizers of the event, the KENCTAD Kenyan Entrepreneurs’ Conference On Trade & Development, was carrying out the event for the eighth time and it was in line with this year’s World Environment Day theme.

As the key speaker at the event, Mr. Wachiuri called on all people from all walks of life to embrace the preservation of the planet seeing that we all live here. Speaking on the role that Optiven has played with regard to the sustainability agenda, he added that the need to work with policy stakeholders will better the chances of embracing the sustainability agenda across the board.

He advised that Optiven has been at the forefront of pushing different agendas in line with sustainability including deliberate planning of their projects to consider and adapt green spaces, sustainable living, environmental friendly habitat practices and the forestation or tree planting on all projects.

The company has also been awarded for it’s role in the green energy sector for the installation of solar powered street lighting on it’s projects. Already, Optiven through the Optiven Foundation has been working with a children’s home in Kayole to erect a solar powered water pump to boost water access at the home.
