This year’s International day of Charity will be celebrated without any specific theme as it is a day dedicated to promoting the values of charity and giving to others. The day serves as a reminder on the importance of acts of kindness and the impact it can have on our global community as it encourages people to think beyond themselves and take time out to help those in need.

The Optiven Foundation celebrates the day to raise awareness on the importance of giving back. The Foundation this year has been at the forefront of charitable activities in Kenya guided by their 4 pillars. The Education pillar, through the Optiven Foundation Soaring Eagles Scholarship and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Program have been instrumental in providing scholarships and educational support to underprivileged children.

We believe that education is a powerful tool for transformation and they are dedicated to ensuring that no child is denied access to quality education,” George Wachiuri Chairman of the Optiven Foundation has been heard saying.

Poverty Alleviation pillar has been instrumental in reaching out to the less fortunate. Through various community projects, the Foundation has fostered a sense of unity and togetherness. In August a fully furnished bungalow was handed over to Mama Leshao in one of Optiven’s premiere projects, Garden of Joy. This has been part of the many other donations including food that have been made to support the community based initiatives.

Health and dignity is also a core pillar which has seen the Foundation involved in medical camps in the various marginalised counties to promote good health and well being. In addition to the medical camps, there have also been donations of sanitary towels as the soft arm is committed to making a difference, providing counselling and support to people living with disabilities.

Ann Nyagah the Optiven Foundation coordinator reiterated, “On this International day of Charity, I urge you to join us in giving back to our communities. There are many ways to make a difference, even the smallest acts of kindness have a big impact.”

This is a day of coming together regardless of our differences so we can unite around the shared values of generosity and compassion.
